AWI seeking woolgrower support for production forecasts
Woolgrowers from all over Australia are being asked to assist Australian Wool Innovation's (AWI) Wool Production Forecasting Committee during February, by taking part in a telephone survey.
By supplying specific information about their farm conditions, flock management and production intentions for the 2008 season, woolgrowers help provide an objective assessment of conditions in all regions to help guide early wool production forecasts for the following season.
Russell Pattinson, chair of the National Wool Production Forecasting Committee, said 1400 producers selected from all regions of Australia will be asked to participate in the telephone survey.
"The results of previous surveys have provided vital information for production forecasts, revealing trends in flock numbers and composition, joining and environmental conditions," said Mr Pattinson.
"The availability of objective and timely data greatly assists the forecasting process, and with changed seasonal conditions, this year's survey is the most important to date.
"The wool industry, from buyers in Australia through to fabric and garment manufacturers around the world, relies on accurate forecasts; which in turn help woolgrowers make informed production decisions.
"This type of information is keenly sought and used by businesses throughout the wool pipeline."
Growers that are contacted will be asked for details of their flock composition, joining intentions for 2008, and likely changes in production under scenarios of a normal break or extended dry conditions.
No individual or personal data will be distributed. Only regional and State aggregate data will be provided to the committees.
All woolgrowers that are contacted are urged to spare a few minutes to assist with this survey.
"I encourage all growers to support AWI and the wool industry, by contributing to the survey," said Mr Pattinson.
