Registrations are now open for the ClassiFly™ Train-the-Trainer Workshop.

ClassiFly™ is a new workshop from AWI's Flystrike Extension Program, which brings together best practice selection and classing information into a workshop format to help growers breed sheep that are more naturally resistant to flystrike.

AWI’s new flystrike workshop, ClassiFly™, is focused on the tools available for classing and selection for improved flystrike resistance. Improving a sheep’s natural resistance to flystrike through breeding reduces the risk of flystrike in both mulesed and non-mulesed sheep, reducing labour and reliance on chemical use, mulesing and crutching.

The ClassiFly™ one-day workshop is for growers in all locations and with all sheep types.

Woolgrowers work through practical activities that enable them better understand the traits associated with flystrike resistance and the tools available to assist them to assess, class, select and join for these traits to reduce their flock’s susceptibility to flystrike and leave the workshop with a written breeding objective, specific to their property, that helps further focus their breeding and selection decisions on traits that improve overall animal welfare, productivity and profitability.

Though AWI train-the-trainer workshops include an accreditation process for attendees who would like to deliver the workshops, AWI encourages those who would like to attend for professional development only to do so.
