Junior Legal Counsel
The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Lead Legal Counsel of the AWI Group (AWI) to support the business in conducting its activities and operations within the limits of appropriate laws and in accordance with best practice.

POSITION PURPOSE
The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Lead Legal Counsel of the AWI Group (AWI) to support the business in conducting its activities and operations within the limits of appropriate laws and in accordance with best practice.
The role will offer support in the management of AWI’s IP Portfolio with a view to protecting its intellectual property assets.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Responsible for managing requests and responding to all enquiries and/or escalating to the Lead Legal Counsel within the designated timeframes.
- Responsible for reviewing all contracts (internal or external) and legal queries and escalating matters to the Lead Legal Counsel as appropriate.
- Assisting in monitoring and managing the day-to-day responsibilities relating to AWI’s duties and obligations ensuring AWI meets its regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining the electronic IP/trademark database.
Under the direction of the Lead Legal Counsel, as required, the Junior Legal Counsel will:
- Assist in identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining AWI policies and procedures in all areas relating to legal and IP services.
- Assist in developing, implementing and managing educational, training and compliance programs.
- Support the Lead Legal Counsel to review and negotiate contracts with a range of external parties (both within Australia and internationally) as required to ensure AWI’s business needs are met.
- Assist in monitoring and managing AWI’s intellectual property assets.
- Assist where required in monitoring and managing the day-to-day administration of AWI’s intellectual property portfolio.
- Understand, apply and be an advocate of AWI’s internal business administrative processes including delegations and authorities.
- Assist in reviewing all publications, marketing material and advertising copy that is released externally.
- Assist Lead Legal Counsel to update and record privacy obligations inclusive of setting AI privacy requirements when using commercial products.
- Input and coding of all legal and IP related invoices.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Formal training/qualifications
Legal Practicing Certificate for NSW
Experience
- Previous paralegal experience desirable.
- Practical experience working with commercial lawyers is an advantage.
