Welfare Improved Practices

Merino sheep flock.

Welfare-improved surgery with pain relief is rapidly replacing the practice of traditional mulesing without pain relief.

Recent major developments driving this change include:

  1. Tri-Solfen, a local anaesthetic spray (released in 2007).
  2. Buccalgesic and Metacam, both Meloxicam based anti-inflammatory drugs (release in 2016).
  3. Numnuts -a local anaesthetic injection for rings (planned limited release in 2019).
  4. Reduced mules size over the last 10 years.
