Reproduction

The ewe is the engine room of any wool business. It makes good sense to have ewes in the right condition at the right time, as condition affects:

  • Reproduction levels and lamb survival.
  • Wool production by the ewe and her progeny.
  • Pasture utilisation and efficient use of feed resources.

The Lifetimewool program identified ewe and pasture targets that can increase the productivity and profitability of Merino sheep enterprises in regions across southern Australia. The program published regional management guidelines and tools to increase ewe flock productivity and profitability throughout the year.

Lifetimewool was funded and supported by Australian woolgrowers through AWI, state government agencies and farm businesses.

The Lifetime Ewe Management program based on Lifetimewool is a course for woolgrowers wanting to increase reproduction and whole farm profit from sheep. Supported by the Sheep CRC and run through RIST (Vic) it is available to all producers in southern Australia.
