Health and Welfare

Maintaining healthy and productive sheep is vital for Australian woolgrowers and the Australian wool industry.

We are committed to animal health, investing in the development of new technologies and information to support woolgrowers in their adoption of best practice management to improve the health and welfare of their wool sheep.

In this section
Flystrike
AWI has in place a proactive, intensive committed flystrike prevention program.
Parasite Management
Flies, Lice and Worms are a major concern for woolgrowers. We have developed tools for woolgrowers to manage these risks.
Analgesia and Anaesthesia
AWI invests in RDE for the improved provision of analgesia and anaesthesia for surgical husbandry practices.
Footrot
Footrot is a contagious, bacterial disease of the feet of sheep with significant welfare and economic impacts. AWI is developing and promoting tools and information for growers to assist them in managing this disease.
Post-Farm Biosecurity
The Australian wool industry had a robust strategy to minimise the potential trade impacts on the industry if an outbreak of an Emergency Animal Disease was to occur in Australia.
