His Royal Highness (HRH) The Prince of Wales has announced his Patronage of The Campaign for Wool – a coalition of industry groups who are united by a common goal to educate consumers about the value and natural benefits of wool.
Key wool organisations from across the globe and the wider wool industry, from woolgrowers and manufacturers, to designers and retailers, have been convened by HRH The Prince of Wales to promote the natural and sustainable attributes of wool.
The initiative is funded by Commonwealth wool bodies Australian Wool Innovation, British Wool Marketing Board, International Wool Textile Organisation and New Zealand woolgrowers.
More than 80 fashion retailers and 60 carpet companies have pledged to help the textile industry increase consumer demand for the fibre.
HRH spoke on 28 June at the National Wool Museum in Wales of the many virtues of wool, highlighting its natural flame retardance, its comfort and the fact it is a natural product which is also entirely biodegradable.
The Campaign for Wool's programme of activity will continue over the next five years with the aim of building a lasting profile for the fibre.
The Campaign launches with Wool Week – a retailer event led promotion, which will feature on High Streets across the UK and which will be supported by a series of activities. Commencing Monday 11 through to Sunday 17 October 2010, Wool Week will celebrate the versatility of wool in fashion, interiors, bedding and building insulation.
