Australian wool production
  • In 2009/2010 there were 73 million sheep shorn in Australia producing 340 million kg of greasy wool.
  • Production for 2010/2011 is forecast to be 350 million kg of greasy wool from 75 million sheep shorn.
  • Australia is the world’s largest producer of wool, producing 21.5% of the world’s greasy wool in 2008.
  • While Australia produces more wool than any other country, China has the largest sheep population.
