Making-up is the process by which individual components of a garment are assembled and sewn together. Customer satisfaction and a garment’s inherent value are affected by the care with which this is done. Due to the unique fibre characteristics of wool fabric when wool garments are being “made up” an understanding how wool “behaves” during and after making up is important. Avoiding problems such as cockling (the distortion of knitted loops), spirality (skewing of structure), facing-up (unwanted surface fibres), and surface wrinkling ensure that the finished garment meets and exceeds consumer expectations for its entire life.
Australian Wool Innovation is a not-for-profit company owned by over 29,000 Australian woolgrowers.
AWI invests in research, development, innovation and marketing along the global supply chain for Australian wool.
