Benefits of Wool Bedding

Enjoy a better night's sleep with wool bedding.

Wool's unique vapour management system moves moisture away from the skin allowing you to stay cooler and drier with a more consistent body temperature throughout the night, whatever the season.

Moisture vapour is absorbed into the wool fibre structure reducing moist conditions which also discourages the propagation of dust mites.

What's more, Woolmark bedding labelled as machine washable and tumble dry can be safely washed at home on the 40°C gentle action cycle.

A great night's sleep means a more relaxed, and stress free day.

Bedding

Wool is one of the world's most versatile natural fibres. When the best wool types are used to produce fabric or filling, it results in the best wool bedding.  For thousands of years, wool has been the natural way to enjoy a comfortable, luxurious and tranquil nights rest.

Today the bedroom is much more than a place for sleeping. It is a quiet haven. A retreat from the stresses of day to day life. Wool provides the perfect mix of strength and softness that gives powerful feelings of safety, security and comfort.

Wool is warm during the winter and cool in the summer. Wool fibres trap millions of microscopic pockets of air and when wool is used in bedding, it is this air that keeps us warm during the coldest of winter nights. In summer, wool's natural temperature regulating properties take over to keep you cool, giving unparalleled comfort.

In addition to premium comfort and multi-climatic temperature control, you can sleep easy knowing that you're utilising one of the worlds most eco-friendly textiles.

Wool's unique structure of amino acids makes it flame resistant, contributing natural safety properties. Its waxy outer layer resists dirt and stains.

Wool's special comfort and safety properties are available in a wide range of beautiful, luxurious - but highly affordable - bedding products:  blankets in various weights, constructions and designs; wool-filled quilts (comforters, duvets and futons) and pillows, wool pile underblankets and even wool-filled mattresses.

Soft and luxurious to touch, the wool fibre is unsurpassed in flexible strength.  In fact an individual wool fibre can be bent 20 000 times before it will break. For this reason wool blankets and throw rugs are difficult to tear because wool fibres can be bent backwards and forwards without breaking. An investment in bedding is a long-term investment in quality, comfort and performance.

Types of bedding

Woven Blankets

Woven wool blankets provide traditional comfort combined with an extensive array of designs, textures, sizes, weights and fashionable colours. The amazing versatility and variety of woven blankets allows you to pick a blanket to match your own unique style and requirements.

Tufted Blankets

Tufted blankets have a high, light pile. They are soft and fluffy to the touch with a springy texture.

Cellular Blankets

The honeycomb-like weave of cellular blankets allows maximum air circulation during warmer weather to efficiently regulate body temperature.

Underblankets

Wool underblankets offer you amazing value and peace of mind. The natural ergonomics of wool underblankets relieve pressure points and give the body more even support.

Wool pile underblankets, or mattress overlays, are designed to fit easily over a mattress and under a sheet. Wool underblankets help to protect mattress surfaces from body oils and perspiration, reducing cleaning and maintenance costs and extending the life of bedding.

Tufted Underblankets

Tufted underblankets are be made by a process whereby short, or long (often known as Flokati) tufts of wool are individually inserted into a pre-woven backing using a needling technique.

Sliver Knit Underblankets

Silver knit underblankets are made using a process which converts wool fibres directly to fabric without the need to produce a yarn. Individual wool fibres are interlocked into the base structure as an integral part of the knitting process.

The resultant pile fabrics are very similar in appearance to natural sheepskin. Most products are produced with a synthetic yarn backing and an adhesive backcoating to bind the fibres into the knitted base.

Wool filled quilts, comforters and pillows

Wool-filled bedding products provide a desirable, luxurious alternative to those made with down/feather or polyester.

Wool quilts are more comfortable than polyester because of the wool fibre's superior thermal insulation and moisture absorption qualities.

The cushion effect, or resilience, of the pillow is vital and is determined by the ability of the filling fibre to trap air. Wool is a popular choice for pillow filling, and for filled pillow covers, because of its natural resilience and its thermal qualities.

Wool topped mattresses

A mattress with a wool top layer provides the comfort and luxury needed for restful sleep and additional insulation to help the body to maintain the optimum sleeping temperature.

Mattresses may be filled entirely with wool, but today's newer models are made with a top layer of wool.

Mattress topper

Similar to a wool filled quilt, the mattress topper is a product with higher density to allow for resting body weight.
