Productivity overview

Wool harvesting is a number of tasks all undertaken consecutively. Small time gains in any one task can generally increase the productivity of the total operation. Some key performance measurements in this regard are:

  • Time taken to fill the shed with sheep;
  • Time taken to fill catching pens with sheep;
  • Time taken for shearer to catch, tip and drag sheep to the shearing station;
  • Time taken for shearer to release the shorn sheep down the chute or across the board;
  • Time taken for a wool handler pick up, walk to the table and throw fleece;
  • Time taken for a wool handler to undertake value adding work such as board locks removal, belly removal, stain removal etc; and
  • Time taken to count out shorn sheep.
