Staffing the shed         $2,500
Inadequate staffing can lead to faults such as stain and poorly skirted fleece generating discounts of up to 30 cents per kilogram. Even after allowing for the costs of an additional shed hand the above savings can still be made.
Registered woolclasser  $1,200
Not using a woolclasser that is registered with AWEX could result in discounts of up to 35 cents per kilogram for fleece wool.
Mob concept $2,000
Sheep presented incorrectly to the shed, could lead to discounts for mixed length and mixed quality wool of at least 15 cents per kilogram.
Dark and medullated fibre risk $13,500
In Merino wool that has been run with breeds known to have Dark or Medullated fibres, discounts of up to $1 per kilogram can apply.
Lice control  $10,000
Loss of production and discounts for cotted and coloured wool.
Pre-shearing crutching    $2,025
Pre shearing crutching should pay for itself by avoiding discounts of only 15 cents per kilogram.
Time of shearing $2,700
Adjusting the time of shearing to improve staple strength from 28 to 35 n/kt, returns can be increased by 20 cents per kilogram.
Bale weights and documentation $600
Increase average bale weight from 160 to 180 kilograms and save on packs, testing, freight and selling costs.
Sheep brands $1,350 
Sheep brands not removed from wool could give discounts of around 10 cents per kilogram.
Additional measurement  $5,000
Discount of between 30-50 cents per kilogram for combing length wools not measured for length and strength. Cost of testing is around 3 cents per kilogram.
