Immunity-summary
If sheep are managed so they develop good immunity to worms they will need fewer drenches.
Some of the other facets of sustainable worm control, such as grazing management, adequate nutrition and breeding programs, benefit the development of immunity.
Young growing sheep should be given priority access to high quality pasture or nutritional supplements. Adequate nutrition is essential for the development of immunity to worms.
Exposure to worms is also necessary for sheep to both develop and maintain immunity to worms. Exposure must be large enough to stimulate immunity, but not so large as to cause disease or production losses.
