How long have you been in business as a consultant and what region(s) do you service?

I worked in the Queensland DPI for over 20 years as a sheep consultant before buying ‘Linallie’ a fine wool sheep property between Texas and Inglewood in 2000. I have continued to do consultancy work on a private basis since.

What are the 5 key management principles producers should adopt to manage drench resistance and worm management in your area?

  1. Learn how to do your own worm egg counting. Spend a little more time counting but a lot less time drenching. Make sure you use a good laboratory to occasionally check your counting and for worm species information.
  2. Know the current drench resistance status of the worms on your property.
  3. Effective quarantine drenching of purchased and other sheep.
  4. Record worm egg counts and drenching activity so that you build up an accurate picture of the worm status of your property paddock by paddock.
  5. Gain the knowledge to use management to help keep worms under control not rely solely on drenches.

What is your favourite quotation and why?

Patience is a virtue, possessed by few and desired by many... and I can’t wait to get my share."

What achievement are you most proud of?

Lots but perhaps my three sons.

What excites you most about country life and your job?

Being my own boss and the challenges.
