How long have you been in business as a consultant and what region(s) do you service?

VHR has provided graziers with parasitology services (diagnostic and consultancy) since its inception in 1989.  The majority of VHR business comes form northern NSW, but extends to most parts of Australia.

What are the 5 key management principles producers should adopt to manage drench resistance and worm management in your area?

  1. Know your drench resistance status.
  2. Drench only when necessary ie. based on worm faecal egg counts.
  3. Use drenches targeted at the worm species involved and use effective drenches in combination.
  4. Avoid overuse of mectin drenches and ideally use them only when a genuine broad spectrum drench is required.
  5. Use integrated parasite management principles as the cornerstone of your worm management plan.

What is your favourite quotation and why?

“Common things occur commonly” - useful to remind yourself of this when investigating animal disease problems.

What achievement are you most proud of?

Gaining my Veterinary Science degree.

What excites you most about country life and your job?

The generally friendly, open and "down to earth" nature of country people is the most appealing part of country life.  Providing advice to graziers who are prepared to accept it is the most rewarding part of my job.

Who has been your biggest influence and why?

I'm really unsure at this stage.
