Land, Water & Wool - pastoral

AWI has trialed several new tools that may assist woolgrowers in determining the optimum stocking rate for their property.

The Pastoral Subprogram of Land Water & Wool undertook five pilot projects that worked closely with small groups of pastoralists to investigate mechanisms for using rainfall and resource condition information to better match stocking rate with feed supply.

These projects were based on the assumption that, with new and improved tools, woolgrowers would be better equipped to increase both the profitability and sustainability of their grazing business, especially during times of drought when overgrazing can impact on profitability for many years to come.

Each of the projects developed a new tool to the prototype stage. These tools can be further developed and made available if there is sufficient interest from woolgrowers.
