Woolgrowers can take confidence in the accuracy of measurements given by organisations and individuals who are recognised by AWI as accredited OFFM operators.

The national OFFM quality assurance (OFFM-QA) scheme aims to provide users with confidence to use OFFM technologies, systems and measurements. It sets minimum standards for OFFM sampling and measurement systems, ensuring accuracy and precision of fibre measurements for sheep selection and clip preparation.

The core components of the OFFM-QA scheme are:

• Operator accreditation;
• Proficiency testing;
• A QA procedures manual;
• New equipment validation; and
• Training and communication.

OFFM Operators accredited with the new OFFM-QA Program are required to undertake formal training and participate in proficiency trials to ensure their instruments and systems produce accurate and consistent fibre measurements.

Overview

The OFFM-QA Program has been developed by AWI as part of its mission to drive innovation that will increase the profitability and sustainability of Australian wool producers.

The OFFM-QA Program is managed by the Australian Wool Exchange Ltd (AWEX), on behalf of AWI, and is intended to provide assurance and confidence in fleece measurement systems and services to all users of the fleece measurement information, including wool producers, sheep breeders, sheep buyers, wool buyers, processors and other down stream customers.

All wool growers are encouraged to use the services of OFFM-QA accredited organisations. The accredited organisations have demonstrated their commitment and ability to providing a quality driven wool measurement service.

Requirements

Organisations offering fibre measurement services wishing to become accredited with the OFFM-QA Program must:

• Undertake approved OFFM-QA Operator training;
• Successfully participate in an OFFM-QA proficiency testing trial; and
• Meet the requirements of an external quality assurance audit.

Ongoing accreditation will only be granted to those organisations that:

• Abide by the Code of Practice and Rules for Accreditation;
• Successfully participate in ongoing OFFM-QA proficiency testing trials; and
• Meet the requirements of an annual external quality assurance audit.

Organisations accredited with the OFFM-QA Program have the right to use the OFFM Trademark and the phrase, "An AWI OFFM-QA Accredited Organisation", in their stationery and marketing documentation.
