Regional IPM-s programs

The IPM-s project is developing, applying and evaluating regional IPM-s programs which:

  • Significantly slow the development of parasite resistance to chemical control
  • Avoid unnecessary treatments and consider the best strategic timing of chemical treatments by linking treatment to parasite burden and strategic need
  • Deliver sheep meat and wool with residue levels below industry agreed standards
  • Maintain or increase production

Over the last 3 years, IPM-s programs have been developed for the main sheep producing areas of Australia and tested on demonstration farms. These programs provide the flexibility to deal with the variability among farms and can therefore be implemented by the majority of producers.

However for optimal results it is recommended that sheep farmers develop and monitor their IPM-s programs in consultation with a veterinary or animal health expert who is familiar with both the research and the subtleties of their local environment.
