IPM-s research

There are a number of areas where research is being conducted to fill the knowledge gaps required for regional IPM-s programs. The main research areas are:

  1. A better understanding of the ecology of Barber’s Pole worm in summer rainfall regions as an aid to grazing management decisions.

  2. How different worm control programs in a winter rainfall area can influence re-infection with worms following summer drenches.

  3. Ecological studies of sheep blowfly in winter rainfall regions will provide a basis for strategic treatment in an IPM program.

  4. Redefining the summer drench requirements in Mediterranean climates to slow the development of parasite resistance.

  5. Investigating management systems for the protection of unmulesed sheep against breech strike.

  6. Investigating the potential for the integration of grazing management and anthelmintic treatment to reduce the level of worm contamination on pasture.
