Stylish look, superior drape and natural shine
Mercerised Merino™ adds an enhanced luxury and comfort to the natural performance of Australian Merino, creating a distinct ‘fluid-like’ experience.
It provides luxurious handle and appearance with enhanced fluidity and drape.
Australian Merino wool is regarded by many as one of the finest and softest fibres in the world. Thanks to an innovative mercerising process it now feels even finer and softer. The process is equivalent to using a Merino fibre an average of two micron* finer, which gives the Mercerised Merino™ range such a smooth surface finish.
The Mercerised Merino™ range is both versatile and stylish. It is lightweight with great drape and luxurious handle, making it ideal for a wide range of apparel – from trans-seasonal casual wear to sophisticated fashion wear. It also enhances colours, so it can be easily adapted to different looks and styles.
The technology used for Mercerised Merino™ is generally applied during the early stage of processing, prior to spinning. The process completely removes the scale structure of the Merino fibre, giving each fibre a very smooth and soft surface. By removing these scales, the light then reflects off the smooth surface to make the fibre look glossy and giving it a subtle lustre.
Today mercerising technology is well established, with a number of spinners offering Mercerised Merino™ knitting yarns in their collections.
The distinctive engineering of the Mercerised Merino™ range makes it ideal for a broad range of apparel. It is particularly suitable for base and mid-layer garments – offering a stylish look with superior drape and natural shine.
* The micron is a unit of measurement used in assessing the diameter of a fibre which equals one millionth of a metre.
