AWI's role

AWI is responsible for delivering research, development and marketing functions for the Australian industry. In carrying out this role, AWI invests along the global supply chain for Australian wool – from woolgrowers to consumers – to deliver outcomes that benefit Australian woolgrowers.

AWI is not the Industry Representative Body for the wool industry and does not speak on behalf of woolgrowers. Under its Statutory Funding Agreement (PDF 273Kb) with the Federal Government, AWI is prohibited from acting or promoting itself as an Industry Representative Body or being involved in agri-political activities.

Industry policy is developed by woolgrower representative organisations, state farm organisations and other supply-chain representative groups. To view the industry structure, click here (PDF 187Kb).
