Current strategic direction

Woolgrowers determine the amount of levy to be paid, and the strategic direction of AWI’s expenditure, every three years through an independent poll, known as WoolPoll.

At the 2009 WoolPoll woolgrowers voted to continue paying a 2% levy to AWI, with 50% to be spent on research and development and 50% on marketing.

AWI’s research and development is further split into On-farm and Off-farm investments. 30% of AWI’s total funding goes towards On-Farm and 20% to Off-Farm research and development activities.

Under the current Strategic Plan AWI operates to five strategic frameworks:

  • On-Farm research and development
  • Off-Farm research and development
  • Marketing
  • Global Business Development/Woolmark
  • International Trade and Market Access.

Details of these strategic frameworks can be found in the 2010-2013 Strategic Plan (PDF 7.69Mb).
