Breeding Leadership

Applications for the Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) Breeding Leadership course for 2012 are now open.

The course aims to develop the leadership and professional skills of young people involved in the wool industry.

Established in 2002 by the South Australian Stud Merino Breeders Association, Breeding Leadership became a  national program through the Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders in 2004.

Since then, over 60 people have completed the course.

While AWI has supported the course in previous years, in 2012 AWI is funding 100 per cent of the course.

Simon Williamson from Williams in Western Australia took part in the course in 2010 and said it changed his perspective and way of doing business.

“Breeding Leadership is a fantastic opportunity to explore and challenge your leadership skills and strengths in business and in life.  It is also a great opportunity to interact and network with other like-minded youth of the Australian wool industry,” he said.

The four day course explores themes of marketing, leading and managing people, corporate governance, succession planning, time management and strategic planning and includes some time on farm.

Breeding Leadership is delivered by Rural Directions Pty Ltd and takes place during February in Clare, South Australia.

Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Carlyn Sherriff on 08 8842 1103 or csherriff@ruraldirections.com to enquire about the application process. Applications close on the 9th December 2011.
