Woolmark International has teamed up with Texprint to launch a new award – the Woolmark Texprint Award – in support of the Campaign for Wool.
Texprint is a unique UK based initiative that provides exceptional access to the best of British textile design talent by connecting industry to selected graduate designers just emerging from college or university.
Texprint is run by industry professionals with the support of many other internationally recognized industry names such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karen and Sir Paul Smith. Texprint’s aim is to select, mentor and promote the best of the UK’s newly graduated textile designers, providing an opportunity for realistic development, and a vital bridge between higher education and the real commercial world.
We see this as an excellent opportunity for students to learn about Merino wool and embrace its many natural attributes.
The students selected to take part in Texprint 2011 will have the opportunity to win the new Woolmark Texprint Award if they have used at least 60% Merino wool in their collection. We will be looking for how effectively the Texprint students use wool’s natural qualities and the innovative and stylistic flair that they demonstrate, keeping in mind the importance of the fabric’s handle for its end use.
