Mr Bob Cummins, of Deepwater NSW, has been announced as the lucky recipient of a suit length from AWI’s ‘Wool fit for a Prince’ campaign. Mr Cummins was selected at random from the 211 Australian wool producers who earlier this year donated a small sample of their wool to make suiting fabric as a wedding gift for Prince William.
After collection by AWI, the greasy wool was sent to Italy to be made into wool top. The top was then sent to the UK to be spun and the fabric manufactured to produce approximately 100 metres of suiting cloth in two styles - a grey flannel and a grey pinstripe.

10 suiting lengths of the remainder of the cloth is being auctioned at wool industry events across Australia for the benefit of the Royal Flying Doctor Service –Prince William’s nominated charity – with the first 8 suit lengths sold raising over $30,000. The last two of the lengths will be auctioned at the upcoming Royal Adelaide Show and live on ABC radio through the Australia All Over program hosted by Macca.

In a recent interview with the Glen Innes Examiner, Mr Cummins, who has been involved in the wool industry his whole life, holds the initiative in high regard. “I’m really behind it, that’s why I went into it,” he said. When asked about how he felt about winning the prize, he responded that “it’s an honour to have it” and that it was “a real privilege to be receiving it”. So, what’s next for Mr Cummins we ask? “I’ve got to find a good tailor” he said. Fair enough!
